Wee Waa Swimming Club was represented by a team of about 25 at Saturday’s Swimming Gunnedah Long Course Qualifying meet at the Gunnedah Memorial Pool.

Wee Waa swimmers achieved plenty of personal best times and places, and had great fun at the carnival.

James Gleeson participated in his first carnival and came first in his 25m breaststroke swim.

The club also had Lincoln and Addison Cecil compete at Coffs Harbour Swimming Carnival on Saturday. They also had a great day of swimming in the rain.

The Gunnedah carnival was the Wee Waa Swim Club’s second after several team members swam at Tamworth on Sunday, January 22.

The club now turns its attention to the Narrabri Stingrays’ carnival on February 16, and it encouraged all team members to give the carnival a go, represent Wee Waa and have some great fun.

Narrabri-based team Karla’s Swim Team, which is a part of the Wee Waa Swimming Club, enjoyed a successful day on Saturday.

“Our team was very strong on the day winning medals in almost all of the events we entered,” head coach Karla Carruthers said.

“Gunnedah is always a great carnival which is close to home for us.

“Harrison Bennett, Jack Lowick, Eddie Lowick and William Smith were the standout swimmers in their age groups.

“The boys are very strong and are often pretty hard to out-swim in our area, however they still have a lot of work to do over the next few months”

“Tayla Nott and Lilly Burford were also very strong on the day, medaling in most of there events.

“The girls have improved so much this season, they have worked very hard and I’m so happy for them both”

“Also, congratulations to Jack Leslie who swam a fabulous 50m freestyle in a NSW Country qualifying time of 31.50.

“Everyone is swimming well, with lots of the younger swimmers getting faster each swim or at least doing a PB in a few events which is always exciting for them as it comes closer to school swimming season.

“We have a very busy few months ahead with lots of racing to come.

“As a team we head back to Gunnedah on the 8th and 9th of February for Speedo Sprints and our New England North West Area Championships.”
