The 2020 school year has begun and for many Narrabri Shire children it is the start of their education adventure.

Kindergarten pupils have been dropped off for their first day and are settling in.

School students have never had a better opportunity to grow and learn than in today’s education environment.

They will study the traditional subjects, as in generations past, but on leaving school will be equipped for many jobs which don’t even exist yet in career pathways their parents could not have dreamt of.

St Francis Xavier’s principal Michael Ball and the staff are delighted with the student enrolment this year.

“At the end of last year our student enrolment was 187,” Mr Ball said.

This reflected the impacts of the drought as families moved away from the shire.

“This year we have an enrolment of 214,” Mr Ball said “ a pleasing increase.”

There are two kindergarten classes, of 20 and 21, at St Francis Xavier’s this year.

Photos of kindergarten classes at shire schools and new staff members will be published in coming editions of The Courier.
