It might still be February but for four Narrabri Blues juniors the 2020 rugby league season is well and truly under way.

Blues under-18s duo Jeffrey Harvey and Kalab Mcmillan were both selected into the Greater Northern Tigers’ under-18s team to compete in the 2020 Laurie Daley Cup competition following trials late last year.

Similarly, under-16s duo Daniel Mcmillan and Gus Smith were selected into the Tigers’ under-16s team to play in the Andrew Johns Cup.

The two competitions both began on Saturday.

The under-18s Tigers team started in style, crushing the Newcastle Knights 32-4 at the Maitland Sports Ground.

The under-16s Tigers team also took on the Knights at the same venue but went down 18-12 in a close contest.

Those two competitions were both launched by Country Rugby League in 2018 and have provided some of the NSW country’s best junior league players a pathway to higher levels of the game.

The Greater Northern Region of NSW Rugby League includes players from Groups Four, 19 and 21.

The Tigers’ round two games will be played at John Simpson Oval, Farrer this Saturday against the Central Coast Roosters.
