A response was sought from Narrabri Shire Council: “The old cemetery was inundated from the heavy rain last month. The damage has been significant enough to warrant the closure of the cemetery until staff and contractors can clean up and deem the area safe for public entry. Staff are currently removing the silt from across the access roads and are starting the process of removing silt and mud between monuments as well as filling in pot holes while waiting for drier conditions to undertake vegetation control. Unfortunately, as this is a work site with various plant and machinery operating, the closure is necessary for the safety of staff, operators, and the community. Council is working to ensure this is done in a timely manner and apologises for any inconvenience.”
