Although Narrabri Little Athletics Club is in its off season, several dedicated athletes have been busy with competition over the summer season.

Narrabri club members Hailee Orman, Indi Clayton, Lennon Simmonds, Ruby Clayton, Emily Simpson, Jessie Simpson, Caitlin Evans and Matthew Evans competed at the recent Gunnedah Gala Day coming home with a swag of ribbons and trophies.

Of particular mention were Hailee Orman who was crowned under-7 girls’ age champion, Ruby Clayton who was named under-10 girls’ age champion and was the feature event trophy winner, and Caitlin Evans who won the under-12 girls’ feature trophy for discus.

The Gunnedah event was a great warm up for Narrabri Athletes leading into the Region One Championships held in Tamworth on the new athletics track on the weekend of February 8 and 9.

The team was joined by Ashlyn and Lincoln Saunders and Miranda Hamilton and overall the kids achieved some great PBs and excellent results.

The Narrabri club has four children now progressing to the NSW State Championships to be held in Sydney this weekend.

Ruby Clayton has qualified in long jump, 100m, 60m hurdles and 200m, Emily Simpson in 70m, Miranda Hamilton in 400m and Matthew Evans in discus and javelin.

This is a great achievement for Narrabri Little Athletics Club.

Tamworth was also host to the State Combined Events Championships this year and Narrabri had four athletes compete in that wonderful event.

Entered athletes must compete in all designated events for their age group and at the end of the weekend point scores from all events are calculated.

The competition was tough with city athletes taking home most of the medals. Congratulations to Georgia Stuart, Miranda Hamilton, Caitlin Evans and Matthew Evans for their great representation of the Narrabri Little Athletics Club.
