The pizza oven which once cooked pizzas for generations of patrons over 35 years at The Pizza Joint now lives on at Gourmet Goblet Pizza and Pasta at Narrabri Sporties club.

And a new era of gourmet pizzas awaits Narrabri customers.

The Pizza Joint closed in July last year when owners Donna and Charles Dicks decided to step back from business and spend more time with their family.

Gourmet Goblet Pizza and Pasta proprietor James Bennett bought the oven.

“We recently installed the oven and launched on Friday and were quickly sold out of pizzas” said chef James.

“The oven is fantastic.

“We will double our number of pizzas this Friday and expect to serve even more customers” James predicted.

The pizza lovers will be ordering from chef James’ new pizza menu. He has created his own gourmet styles ranging from T-Rex (pulled beef, Spanish onion, roasted capsicum on a tomato and chili base) to salt and pepper prawn and calamari, the more traditional Neapolitan through to Pepperoni and Chorizo and more.

“These are hand made pizzas, using a special Sicilian crust and our own recipe range of toppings” James said.

James will be ably assisted in the kitchen by experienced pizza cook Bree Johnson who previously worked at The Pizza Joint.

And former Pizza Joint owners Donna and Charles Dicks have been happy to show James and the team the finer points of the new oven.

The pizza cooks at a fierce 350 degrees Celsius, and the pizza is ready in just seven minutes.

Preparation of the pizza dough starts each day at lunch time ready for the evening’s orders.

Now, with oven installed, menu prepared, the pizza team ready and customers lining up, it’s time for full production, said James.

“At the moment we are offering a pick up service at the restaurant, but are working towards a delivery service around town” he said.

“Meanwhile, just phone and your pizza will be ready.”
