The Stars of Narrabri Dance for Cancer event has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cancer Council charity dance was scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at The Crossing Theatre but will now be moved to a new date.

The statement below was released by the Cancer Council:

Given the high risk to public health currently posed by COVID-19, Cancer Council has made the decision to postpone the Stars of Narrabri Dance for Cancer due to be held on May 9 at the Crossing Theatre.

Nothing is more important to us than the health of our volunteers, staff and supporters – safety must come first.

“After taking advice from leading health professionals and knowing that many who attend our events are in a higher risk group, we’re confident that this decision is in the best interests of everyone involved, as well as the wider NSW community,” said  community relations coordinator for Cancer Council Kate Dubois.

Cancer Council is very thankful for the continued support and understanding it is receiving from its Stars, event stakeholders and the wider Narrabri community and apologises for any inconvenience or disappointment this decision may cause.

The local Cancer Council team is continuing to work closely with the Stars, venue operator and production team to move the event to a date later in 2020, but will only go ahead if and when the danger to the community from the COVID-19 virus has passed and health authorities advise it is safe to organise community events again.

Cancer Council appreciate the public’s patience as it works through this and if anyone from the community has any questions or concerns about the event being postponed please contact Kate Dubois on 6763 0904 or email [email protected].

In the meantime, Cancer Council encourages people to continue to follow the current NSW Government Health advice to reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19.

If you or someone you know has cancer and are concerned about cancer and COVID-19, please call Cancer Council’s 13 11 20 Information and Support line to speak to one of its trained health professionals.
