With the presence of COVID-19 escalating everyday all over the country, Narrabri Shire Council Mayor, Cathy Redding is urging the community to play their part in adhering to current enforceable government restrictions, avoid unnecessary travel, and to diligently practice social distancing and prescribed hygiene and health practices.

Cr Redding is calling for the community to exercise caution.

“These are unprecedented times – we have battled through droughts and floods and now we are battling this pandemic,” said Cr Redding

“This is everyone’s fight and everyone in our community plays a role in reducing each other’s exposure to this virus.

“Although the immediate future is uncertain, one thing is for sure – we are a resilient community with a diverse economic profile that is based hugely on agriculture, extractive and renewable energy as well as many local businesses that contribute enormously to our economy.

“All of these businesses in our shire will play a huge role in getting our region and our country back on track once this is over.

“I’d like to give my sincere gratitude to all of those who are providing necessary goods and services to the community and who are working long and hard hours to provide for us all. Don’t underestimate the contribution you are making.

“For those whose livelihoods have been put on hold, there are options to assist during this time with more incentives and programs being released by various government and private agencies. I encourage you to investigate these options that may provide assistance for you and your families during these trying times.”

“Please, I urge all Narrabri Shire residents to remain calm, adhere to government issued directions, and only venture out for necessities.

“We are all in this together and all have an important role to play in stopping the spread of this virus.”

Council is continuing to monitor the situation and is in daily contact with relevant authorities regarding the health and safety of the Narrabri Shire community.
