There were special Anzac Day tributes held early this morning around the Narrabri Shire – in driveways, at farm gates and on front verandahs.

At 6am, in Alma Street Wee Waa the sound of bugler Peter Carrett playing the Last Post carried around the town.

Mr Carett was backed up by other Wee Waa Community Band members who also played.

Many residents looked and listened on from the end of their streets including Wee Waa’s only living World War II veteran John Collett.

Mr Collett stood proudly dressed in a suit jacket and wearing his medals as Mr Carrett played on what was a very frosty morning.

Many in the street felt honoured to catch a glimpse of Mr Collett, who was joined by his grandson Luke Dewson and great-grandson Nate Dewson

More to come including a video snippet of Mr Carrett playing the Last Post.
