Narrabri Fire and Rescue’s HAZMAT crew members were called to the Narrabri Creek earlier today to try and identify “a discolouring in the water over 800 metres”.

Station Commander Shane Bradford was with crews on land behind the grandstand, there was also a group of State Emergency Service personnel in a boat on the river.

“We’re currently undertaking testing of the water and liaising with the EPA and also State Water to identify the substance,” said Station Commander Shane Bradford.

At this stage, Commander Bradford has described the substance as ‘slick and of an unknown nature’.

More to come.
