Saturday’s Anzac Day commemoration was like no other in the history of Australia’s solemn national day.

In Narrabri, 15 people paid their respects and honour the Anzacs at the RSL War Memorial at Dawn.

In normal years the memorial services have drawn large attendances.

The public health regulations on public gatherings this year meant that there would be no similar commemoration.

However, tradition was not to be denied to the participants who attended as the sun rose on Saturday.

The 15, maintaining their ‘social distancing’  as required, stood in solemn silence as the Last Post was sounded and the Ode read.

Narrabri RSL sub branch president Gary Mason led the observance. Mr Mason had earlier attended the Narrabri West Memorial service which drew 11 participants. During the day, families and individuals across the shire held their own silent tributes throughout the morning, with homes and gardens displaying Australian flags and at 11am when 2MAX FM broadcast the Last Post, Reveille and the Ode.
