“Where did COVID-19 come from?” asks the respected Economist newspaper. “By far the most likely explanation is that the virus jumped from bats to humans, perhaps via another animal such as a pangolin, at a wet market in Wuhan.” A ‘wet market’ is a marketplace where live animals are sold. A pangolin is a small, scaly ant eater, pictured. The pangolin are innocent, gentle creatures, heavily trafficked to the point of extinction. Their scales have medicinal properties, or so many Chinese believe.
