The 2019-20 swimming season was one full of new experiences for Karla’s Swim Team members.

The team, which is made up of mostly Narrabri swimmers, was welcomed to a new home when it chose to swim for the Wee Waa Swimming Club,

The local swimmers were then enjoying a successful season when the back end of the campaign was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However the young guns at Karla’s Swim Team still made the most of their time in the pool and represented themselves and the Wee Waa Swim Club in fine fashion both in and out of the water.

Karla’s Swim Team head coach Karla Carruthers said that she was proud of her team’s efforts this season.

Carruthers recently named her 2019-20 season award recipients.

The recipients are as follows:

Male swimmer of the year – Harrison Bennett:

“Harry has had an incredible 2019-20 season,” coach Carruthers said.

“Harry has a phenomenal work ethic and has the ability to work consciously everyday towards his goals.

“This season Harry has proven he is one of the best swimmers our area has ever produced for his age, breaking numerous area records some of which were over 20 years old.

“Harry loves to race and he thrives off the thrill of competition.

“As always it is very rewarding and fun to coach Harry and to be a part of his journey. Can’t wait to see what you can do next year champ.”

“Tayla’s attitude towards training, her team mates, her coach , competition and achieving her goals this year has been outstanding,” coach Carruthers said.

“She has applied herself to her training program and found an inner confidence to believe in herself a little more when racing.

“2020 was Tayla’s first time swimming at NSW Country.

“I am very excited to continue to work with Tayla next season.”

“Lilly has been one of my most consistent swimmers over the past five years, she rarely misses sessions,” coach Carruthers said.
