Shire libraries are open again, COVID safeguards in place

Narrabri Shire Libraries are open again as of yesterday, but with some restrictions on the usual services, Narrabri Shire Council advises.

“The library personnel have been working tirelessly during the pandemic to offer alternative library services such as the children’s craft packs, click and collect loans as well as a range of free online programs,” library coordinator, Naomi Radford said.

“Staff have been working on developing additional preventative measures and assessing space requirements in anticipation of the re-opening.

“Many factors needed to be considered in this process with numerous safety and quarantine processes being finalised.

“Each Shire library facility has signage clearly outlining the conditions of entry.

“We ask members of the public to follow these guidelines when attending their local library.

“There are 5000 library returns outstanding across the three library facilities that will require cleaning and quarantine before they can be recirculated,” said Mrs Radford.

“This entails individual items being sanitised and quarantined for seventy-two hours before they can be recirculated to the public.

“This is a complex task that requires a vast amount of time and space within each of our facilities.

“With strict hygiene and social distancing practices coupled with time limits for attendance we hope to manage an equitable balance that sees we meet all patrons’ needs and mandatory public health measures.”

“Narrabri and Wee Waa branches will only be taking returns via their return chute to maintain minimal contact until they can be processed under quarantine protocol.

“Boggabri patrons will be able to make returns Tuesday and Friday, a return trolley will be place outside the front entrance during their normal business hours.

Online library services currently being offered will continue with Click and Collect, access to e-resources, children’s craft pack, adult puzzle packs along with email and phone support, Mrs Radford said.

Library hours at each branch will be as follows: Narrabri, Monday to Friday, 10am to 12noon, 2-3pm.

Wee Waa, Monday to Friday, 10am to 12noon, 2-3pm.

Boggabri, Tuesday and Friday, 10.30am to 12.30pm
