Chef James Bennett is investing and upscaling his business, confident in the future of Narrabri and the district.

Chef James has built a following among local diners over the years and has latterly been operating the Gourmet Goblet restaurant at Narrabri Bowling Club, ‘Sporties.’

The club is currently under voluntary administration and its future re-opening date remains uncertain.

“I have bought the Monterey Cafe in Maitland Street,” said James.

He moved into the Monterey last week.

“I plan to make it a ‘mega takeaway’ food outlet,” James revealed.

“But while I will be introducing new food lines, I am determined to keep The Monterey’s great tradition of fish and chips and hamburgers, which are so popular, exactly the same.

“And of course the iconic cafe will remain named The Monterey.

James is giving the interior a major makeover, has relocated his big pizza oven to the Monterey, and will be offering pizzas, and kebabs, among other food lines.

“We will have something for everyone,” he said.

Former proprietors Jenny and Devery Wilson have run the successful Monterey Cafe for the past four years.
