A new word has apparently emerged – ‘doomscrolling.’ The Wall Street Journal reports doomscrolling, also known as ‘doomsurfing, is a social media phenomenon which means spending inordinate amounts of time on screens poring over grim news. “Primal instincts often drive our obsession with stressful news, and social-media platforms are designed to keep us hooked,” writes WSJ journalist Nicole Nguyen. The conversation is focused on the pandemic and protests at the moment.
