The Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2020 Club Singles campaign began on Thursday and continued on Saturday at the Narrabri Bowling Club (Narrabri Sporties).

Mary Wheeler got off to a good start against Helen Woodward winning the first four ends of their game with a lead of 7-0. Woodward then scored four on the fifth end, but Wheeler went on to win 13 of the 19 ends played to take the game 25-14.

Rhonda Welchman and Di Chessells played 20 ends with Welchman coming away with a 25-11 win.

Val Falkiner and Trish Allison had a very long game. Falkiner led 22-13 after 21 ends and only needed three more points to win the game, but Allison scored on the 22nd end and went on to win five of the last eight ends. Falkiner eventually won the game over 29 ends 25-20.

Ronnie Dewar and Pat Sheils had a very close game up to the 17th end when Dewar led 18-16. She then scored seven points while conceding just one across the last five ends to win the game 25-17.

Joyce Briggs and Eva Sadler went head-to-head. Briggs got off to a great start and won the first five ends to lead 9-0. Sadler then had four good ends to take the lead 14-10. She then went on to win the game 25-12.

Sue Solomon got off to a good start against Marie Redman leading 10-2 after seven ends. Redman then won the next five from six ends to take the lead 15-13. Redman went on to win the game 25-15 over 25 ends.

Club Singles matches to be played on Thursday are as follows:

R Dewar v H Caton (marker – L Tuckey), Cecile v M Wheeler (marker – H Woodward), R Welchman v B Eather (marker – D Chessells), K Carolan v V Falkiner (marker – S Solomon), D Armstrong v E Sadler (marker – G Godden).

Matches to be played on Saturday, August 1 are as follows:
M Redman received a forfeit from C Demamiel, L Scott v L Tuckey (marker – R Dewar), C Neil v L Wedesweiler (marker – D Gleeson).

Meanwhile several Narrabri players travelled to Wee Waa on Saturday and Sunday to play in the Namoi District Open and Senior pairs.

Lorraine Scott and Debbie Gleeson received a bye in the first round of the Open Pairs then went on defeat Sally Williams and Heidi Monch from Lightning Ridge in the final on Saturday afternoon.

They will now contest the Region Three playoffs in Lightning Ridge on September 18.

In the Senior Pairs five Narrabri teams travelled to Wee Waa.

On Saturday morning Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman defeated Helen Woodward and Val Falkiner.

On Saturday afternoon Dawn Armstrong and Eva Sadler defeated Redman and Welchman.

Cindy Neil and Lyn Tuckey defeated Clarence Rigby and Ida Muusers from Moree.

On Sunday morning Kay Carolan and Mary Wheeler, who received a forfeit in the first round, were defeated by Dawn Armstrong and Eva Sadler.

Cindy Neil and Lyn Tuckey defeated Lorraine Bartel and Dotty Heffernan from Moree.

The final on Sunday was an all-Narrabri event with Eva Sadler and Dawn Armstrong playing against Cindy Neil and Lyn Tuckey.

Neil and Tuckey got off to a good start and were leading 20-12 on the 17th end. Armstrong and Sadler scored seven points on the last four ends to take the score to 20-19. But Neil and Tuckey held on to win and will now travel to Lightning Ridge to contest the Regional playoffs on September 18.
