Two Narrabri-trained pacers run second at the Tamworth Paceway

Nine Narrabri-trained pacers competed at a Tamworth Harness Racing Club meeting last Thursday, two of which placed second in their respective races.

In the fifth race of the afternoon the Peter Shepherdson-trained Darby Brights was driven to a second-placed finish by Chris Shepherdson, then in race seven the Jarred Hetherington -trained Bettor Getta Lover also ran home second.

Both finishes had just centimetres separating first and second.

Race five was the 1980-metre Carpet One Tamworth Ladyship Pace (mares, NR up to 55).

Darby Brights started from the second line behind pole position next to the race’s winner Spikeador which was driven by Brad Elder for Ian Mabbott.

With two circuits left to run Darvy Brights was third behind the leader which was pole position starter and $2 favourite Groovy Shannon which was driven by Anthony Varga for Les Enks.

The five-year-old mare was still third going into the final straight and overtook two pacers in front of her but Spikeador ran home widest to snatch victory, running past the finish post half a head in front of Darby Brights.

The Weidemann-owned Darby Brights has now raced three times for trainer Peter Shepherdson and has placed second twice.

The seventh race of the afternoon was the 2360-metre Family Hotel Pace (NR up to 60).

Bettor Getta Lover started next to pole position on the front line in the number two barrier and was driven by Mick Formosa.

With two laps left to run Bettor Getta Lover was running second to the Stacie Elliott-trained, Madi Young-driven Helix.

The duo ran first and second for almost the entire race and battled down the final straight for victory.

Helix held on to win the race by a half-neck margin.
