Rain across the Narrabri Shire has further brightened prospects for the season.

Falls have been welcome, although patchy in some areas.

The Narrabri Weather website’s network of recording stations provides a comprehensive overview of rainfall across a wide area.

Falls over the past week have ranged from the low to mid 20 millimetres in the Merah North area to 25.4 at Culgoora, 13 at the ACRI weather station, Bellata 24, 16.8 at the Wheat Research Institute, 24mm on Kaputar Road, 26 at Boggabri and 30mm in Narrabri.

Keepit now is at 20.5 percent capacity and Split Rock Dam is at 4.7.

Farmers are looking for more rain in the weeks ahead.

“A good steady 50mm would set us up quite well for the harvest,” one grower said.

“The rain we have had so far is keeping the crops going and will hopefully take us through to a reasonably good crop.

“But everyone would like to see a good fall in the next few weeks especially as the weather warms up.

“There are some very good crops at the moment, canola, faba beans, bread wheat and durum, and quite a bit of barley.

“We will definitely have a harvest so things look very much brighter this year.”
