The Narrabri Judo Club has been running at the Narrabri and District Citizens Boys Club for more than half a century and in its time has seen many dedicated instructors and judokas come through its doors.

Current instructor Fred Watt was made a life member of the club in 2018 after almost 60 years of service and continues to put young people of the Narrabri Shire through their paces each week.

The club is one of many that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and has been in recess for the past five months but has plans to resume when more restrictions are eased.

The club recently expressed its appreciation to a group of six young judokas for their efforts and application to both the sport and the club.

Alana Bennett Clancy has been part of the club for nine years, Chloe and Lachlan Large for eight years each, Elias Watt and Ethan Harris four years each and Christopher Went two years.

Mr Watt told The Courier that the six judokas had not only been taking part in judo practice, but had also contributed countless hours in teaching and assisting other young junior members of the club.

The club obtained two images of the youngsters taken by The Courier in November last year to enlarge them and put them on one of the walls at the Narrabri and District Citizens Boys Club to express the club’s appreciation of the group’s hard-working efforts and achievements for both themselves and the club.

The club approached Turner Signs and Embroidery to enlarge the photo which the local business did free of charge as a donation to the club.

The Narrabri Judo Club thanked both Turner Signs and Embroidery and The Courier for their generosity and said that the donations were very much appreciated.
