Narrabri Tennis’ winter doubles competition in full swing

Narrabri Tennis’ 2020 Wednesday night winter doubles competition is in full swing at the Dangar Park Tennis Centre.

The current season is three weeks old and has 10 teams contesting the A-grade title and eight teams competing in B-grade.

Each round, teams play two sets against two other teams.

The competitions’ poinstcores are made up from every single game won, no points for wins or losses, but teams’ matchscore is their pointscore.

Rod Kirk and Josh Campbell currently lead the A-grade competition having won all six sets across the first three weeks to total a maximum 36 points.

The B-grade leaders, Jack Hartnett and Damian Murphy, have also totalled a maximum 36 points after winning all six sets across the first three weeks.

A-grade pointscore after week three is as follows:
Rod/Josh 36, Warwick/Jon 30, Brock/Ryan 27, Red/Grant 26, Callum/George 24, Bushy/Adam 21, Shane/Laura/Kaleb 21, Erica/Nikki/Jess 18, Dean/David 17 and Rod/Ed 14.

B-grade pointscore after week three is as follows:

Narrabri Tennis’ Shane Murphy has asked each team to provide him with their team name so he could finalise the season draw.

Last Wednesday the Narrabri Tennis players enjoyed ‘pie night’, with sponsor Wee Waa Bakery, owned by tennis player Anthony Gray, providing some delicious pies and sausage rolls for the teams to enjoy.

As usual pie night was a huge hit with all players.

Meanwhile, Narrabri Tennis’ Friday afternoon junior matchplay continues each Friday from 5pm.

These junior fixtures provide the next step along the Narrabri Tennis coaching pathway.

This matchplay uses both singles and doubles matches where players can practice skills, shot technique and tactics learnt during their lessons.

The format for the afternoon session normally follows groundstroke warmup, serve warmup then match assignments.

No teams are formed, players are just simply assigned matches to play for that session.
