Highly-anticipated food markets and amusement rides may not go ahead, with Narrabri Shire Council declaring that it would not be issuing any approvals for the events until it is satisfied that there has been adequate provisions made for the protection of public health.
Late on Monday afternoon, Narrabri Shire Council received applications for approval to hold food markets and operate amusement rides at the Narrabri Showground from Thursday, August 20.
Narrabri Shire Mayor Cathy Redding said she was concerned that the late notice from the organisers of the events might compromise community health given the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve been discussing the events with local officers from the NSW Police Force since we received the applications late on Monday afternoon, and they are as concerned as we are,” said Mayor Redding.
Council have asked the organisers of the events to work with the local police to prepare COVID-19 Safety Plans that will protect the Narrabri community.
“We as a Shire have maintained a COVID-19 free status through this pandemic – now is not the time to cut corners when it comes to the safety of our community,” mayor Redding said.
“I would like to encourage our community to support our own wonderful small businesses that operate in the hospitality industry.”
