Wee Waa sectional matches for Zone 3 State Championships Pairs comps cancelled

Wee Waa Bowling Club was scheduled to host sectional matches for the 2020 Zone 3 State Championships in State Pairs, Senior Pairs and State President’s Reserve Pairs this Saturday, however they have been postponed for at least six weeks.

Nine teams were scheduled to compete on the day across the three competitions with the old Narrabri v Wee Waa rivalry set to take centre stage.

Five of those were Wee Waa Bowling Club teams and the other four were from Narrabri Sporties.

However, Bowls NSW announced on Tuesday that those matches would not go ahead.

“NSW Health together with NSW Office of Sport have released updated guidelines for community sport to be put in place from Wednesday, August 19,” a Bowls NSW statement read.

“NSW Health has recommended to all NSW sporting organisations to suspend all activities that bring together participants from different areas and may include local government areas.

“As a result of this direction, Women’s Bowls NSW and Bowls NSW hereby advise that all State Championship events to be held at district/regional/zone level must be suspended for a period of six weeks commencing Wednesday, August 19.

“This suspension applies to any State Championships currently in progress and any scheduled to be played within the next six weeks.

“All districts/regions/zones are advised to alter their season programs to reschedule any matches to be played after this six-week period.

Zone 3 Bowls match committee chairman Owen Walker relayed the decision to the zone’s bowlers on Tuesday.

“Please be advised that all zone events including the State Pairs this coming weekend have been postponed until further notice,” he said.

“Subject to further notice we will be rescheduling the State Pairs and Triples to start after the six-week period which means these events will not be held until at least October this year.

“The zone match committee will soon meet and look into new dates for these events.

“Further notice of the new dates will be provided in due course. All entrants will be required to submit a new entry form to compete. We will provide the amended entry forms with the new dates to each club once they have been prepared.

“Please note this announcement does not stop your own club playing bowls at club level.”
