Wee Waa High School student Zoe Zawada is witnessing what it’s like to be the first point of contact for many hospital patients and visitors.

The year 11 student is currently carrying out a traineeship as a hospital administration officer and works with administration staff at the front desk of Wee Waa Hospital one day a week, while also completing virtual TAFE classes and school.

“It’s a school based traineeship for Aboriginal students, it’s for two years and then I’ll have a Cert 111 in business at the end,” said Zoe.

“I’m not sure what I want to do when I finish school but it’s good to have a qualification.”

Zoe said the traineeship has helped her appreciate just how critical the administration team is in a hospital.

“Without the admin. team, things wouldn’t run as smoothly as they do – it’s a big role.

“The nurses depend on the admin. team,” she added.

Zoe said she was considering a career in the health sector because she liked helping people.
