NDJRL duo double down to add to impressive try tallies

Two Narrabri and District Rugby League teams travelled to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School on Sunday for round five of the 2020 North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League season.

The under-13s and under-15s teams were both in action while the under-16s side had the weekend off after Kootingal forfeited their scheduled match.

The 13s and 15s teams both went down on the day but two future stars added to their impressive try tallies for 2020.

Under-13s leading tryscorer Nate Browing crossed for both of his team’s four-pointers in a 22-12 loss to take his season tally to 20 tries in five games and one 40-minute exhibition match which was contested in Gunnedah on a break weekend on Saturday, August 22.

Under-15s leading tryscorer Ashton Smith also scored both of his team’s two tries in its 22-10 defeat to claim 12 four-pointers in five matches and two 20-minute exhibition games which were also played in Gunnedah on August 22.

In the under-13s match on Sunday at FMAHS, hosts Farrer mixed its Green and Gold teams to put a combined best team forward to take on the undefeated junior Blues side.

The boys in blue put up a solid effort and were leading at halftime following Nate’s two tries which were both converted by Jackson Humphries.

An injury to Jackson saw him carried from the field which took a toll on the visiting team defensively and the Farrer boys ran away in the end, winning the match 22-12.

In the under-15s competition, 13 Narrabri boys were keen and ready to take on Manilla. They played with might and gave their all in a 22-10 loss.

Ashton crossed for both tries and a conversion from Jamarl Zarka added the side’s extra two points.

This weekend all three NDJRL teams will play their games on Saturday.

The under-13s team will be on the road again when they travel to North Tamworth to challenge Norths from 12.20pm.

The under-15s and under-16s teams will be in action at Collins Park.

The junior Blues under-15 team will take on Gunnedah from 10am, before the under-16s go head-to-head with Norths from 11.10am.

There are now just three rounds left to play in the 2020 season.

Meanwhile NDJRL will host a PSM Rugby League Clinic on Wednesday, September 30.
