A future jobs bonanza is expected to be created on the back of an almost $17 million investment for stage one of Narrabri Shire Council’s Northern New South Wales Inland Port.

The proposed industrial precinct and freight exchange was given a kickstart by the state government, through its Growing Local Economies Fund, for the Culgoora Road project.

It will become the premier industrial and logistics hub development in North West NSW.

Narrabri Shire Council general manager Stewart Todd, speaking from the inland port’s future home on the outskirts of town, said thousands of jobs would be spawned in the future as a result of the development.

“What will come from the land behind me will be an absolute manufacturing and agricultural based mecca,” he said.

Mayor Cathy Redding said the project will add to jobs growth and opportunities, and the continued growth of the shire.

“What this funding also gives us is the security that will turn this development into reality,” Cr Redding said.

“I would encourage any industry that is out there, if they would like to be part of what will be the premier inland port in Northern NSW, now is the time to start these conversations.”

Cr Redding also paid tribute to the leadership of Mr Todd and council staff members to progress the development of the port.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro spent two days visiting the shire and was excited about the future for Narrabri.

“This is huge news for the community of Narrabri,” he said.

“The precinct will attract investment from businesses in transport and logistics, manufacturing and agribusiness who are looking to expand their operations close to the Inland Rail with access to major ports and capital cities.”

“This region is really starting to see an opportunity ahead of them.

“There is confidence in agriculture, there is confidence in regional and rural NSW and there is confidence in Narrabri.”
