The arrival of spring has brought with it some much warmer weather, and on the greens at Narrabri Sporties both men’s and ladies’ bowls action is also heating up.

This year’s ladies Club Pairs final will see a repeat of last year’s final with Helen Woodward and Val Falkiner defending their title against Eva Sadler and Dawn Armstrong.

Sadler and Armstrong were too strong in the semi-final against Janet Coleman and Gail Panton.

Coleman and Panton were leading 6-2 on the fifth end. The score was then 6-all on the sixth end and 12-all on the 11th end.  Sadler and Armstrong then scored 13 points to two across the last seven ends to win the game 25-14.

The final will be played on Thursday, September 17.

Meanwhile ladies’ Club Triples matches will be played on Saturday, September 19.

Matches include:
Marie Redman, Dawn Armstrong and Lyn Wedesweiler v Caroline Tomlinson, Jan Etheridge and Berice Eather; Kay Parker, Cindy Neil and Rhonda Welchman v Carol Demamiel, Gloria Campey and Kay Carolan; Glennis Godden, Di Chessells and Cecile v Val Falkiner, Gail Panton and Eva Sadler; Janet Coleman, Debbie Gleeson and Lorraine Scott v Ronnie Dewar, Sue Solomon and Helen Woodward.

In the men’s bowls season, two Major Pairs games were played on Saturday.

A very close game was played between Justin Green and Norm Wolford against Len Ryan and Graham Rose. The score was 20-all on the last end so an extra end was required to be played. Rose had an opportunity with his last bowl, he picked up the jack with his last bowl but didn’t stay with the jack and went down by one point, the final score 21-20 to Wolford and Green.

Scott Dewar and Stuart Coleman got off to a great start in their game against Preston Clarke and David Dewar to take the lead 11-1 after five ends. However, Clarke and Dewar fought their way back to take the game 20-18.

In President Pairs, Terry Wilson and Kevin Baguley defeated Steve Daskey and Ian Macmillan 22-14.

In another President Pairs game, Bruce Tomlinson and Larry Scott were down 14-5 on the 13th end against Bob Cantrill and Len Ryan. They then scored 10 points across three ends to lead 15-14. The score was 18-all on the 19th end. Tomlinson and Scott then scored eight points to three to take the game 23-21.

In a President Pairs match on Sunday morning, Graham Rose and Leo Hall defeated Ken Regan and Bill Rosewarn 26-17.

In a Major Pairs game on Sunday morning between the two Saturday winners, Preston Clarke and Dave Dewar defeated Justin Green and Norm Wolford 22-17 in the first semi-final of that competition.
