The cream has risen to the top – Adam Taylor is once again the Narrabri Golf Club’s men’s club champion.

The local golfer, match committee member and former club captain scored a 12-over-par 296 to win the four-round, 72-hole 2020 event by 12 shots from gross runner-up Geoff Artis.

Tubby, as he is well known as at the Narrabri Golf Club, scored a two-over-par 73 in round one on Saturday, September 12, then a one-over-par 72 the following day. Those scores were best on both days.

On Saturday in round three Taylor scored a six-over-par 77, then in round four on Sunday he won another round with a three-over-par 74.

That saw him finish the four-round event with 296, which equalled his best score for a club championships event.

The 38-year-old is now a five-time club champion, having won the event previously in 2000, 2003, 2009, and 2013.

He told The Courier that he was proud to win the 2020 event and added that it was pleasing to see so many people take part in it.

“I’m pretty proud,” Taylor said.

“The conditions were good, I couldn’t fault that really. Saturday was a little bit rough but all up it was four days of pretty good weather for golf.

“What I love most about the club is the atmosphere and the members, they’re all pretty good.

“It was good to see 320-odd players go around during the four days across the men’s and women’s, it was very well supported.”

The ladies’ champion for 2020 is Robyn Spence who defended her 2019 crown by winning her 17th Narrabri Golf Club ladies’ club championship.

Spence was the division one gross winner in each of the four rounds and finished with a total of 338 off the stick after scoring 84, 84, 87 and 83 from rounds one to four respectively.
