Two Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League teams were in action at the weekend as the COVID-19-affected 2020 North West Group 4 Junior Rugby League season came to an end.

The junior Blues were victorious in an under-13s match at Collins Park on Saturday, then won an under-16s game at Jack Woolaston Oval, North Tamworth, on Sunday.

The under-15s team forfeited its final round match which was scheduled to be played against Dungowan in North Tamworth on Sunday.

NDJRL’s under-13s side hosted Gunnedah on Saturday and again was triumphant, taking the game 54-16. Bagging doubles were Nate Browning, Toby Galagher, Noah Gordon and Fletcher Williams, while teammate Jack Anderson crossed for one. Jack also added eight extra points from four successful conversions, Toby Galagher kicked two and Darcy Todd, Nate and Fletcher all added one each.

That win created a memorable end to what has been a great season, and the boys are now keen to regroup for what will be a promising 2021.

The side entered the 2020 campaign with high expectations after going through seven years of annual home carnivals as undefeated champions. It lived up to those expectations, winning all of its games except one.

The club’s under-16s side took on Kootingal on Sunday and secured a solid 26-0 win. Tries were scored by Chris Clark, Zack Doring, Joc Ford, Archer Harrison and Trent White. Zack kicked well on the day and finished with three conversions.

That game brought with it the end of 12 years of junior footy for some of the under-16s team’s players.

The club congratulated the boys on their junior footy years and wished them well for the future.
