The Western Imperial Razorbacks’ first and second grade sides both scored dominant victories in round one of the respective Narrabri District Cricket Association one day seasons on Saturday.

The Razorbacks took on RSL at Hogan Oval, Narrabri, in the first grade season opener and scored a five-wicket win.

Debutant Adam Gordon was the star of the show for the Wee Waa-based club, excelling with both bat and ball as well as in the field in his first game with the club.

Gordon scored a match-best unbeaten 45 in his side’s successful chase, and in the first innings of the match he took a catch and bowled four overs at the expense of just four runs in one of those overs, with the other three being maidens.

RSL’s Mick Dowdell captained his side in the absence of Jarrett Tough and elected to bat after winning the toss. RSL made 9-134 in 45 overs which the Razorbacks then chased down in 20.5 overs for the loss of just five wickets.

Along with Gordon, Razorbacks skipper Justin Knight (28), club president Ty Baker (21) and big hitter Chris Smith (19) all reached double figures.

The Razorbacks’ best with the ball was Zack Trindall who finished the innings with 3-25 from nine overs, while Josh Trindall (2-25 from eight overs), Knight (2-26 from eight overs) and Hoffman (1-23 from nine overs) all chipped in with wickets.

The Razorbacks’ second XI hosted Civeo at Dangar Park, Wee Waa, on Saturday in the sides’ second grade clash.

There were 605 runs scored on the day and 17 wickets were taken as the hosts scored a 45-run win.

The Razorbacks batted first and finished their 40-over innings on 7-325, inspired by co-captain Shane Robinson who opened the batting and smashed a game-high 163 runs.

Civeo managed to score 280 runs in 35.1 overs but lost its final wicket in the 36th over as the Razorbacks held on to win a thriller.

Mark Rottger starred with the ball for the Razorbacks with a game-best 5-43 from six overs.

In round two matches this Saturday, the Razorbacks’ first XI will take on Civeo at Collins Park, Narrabri, and the club’s second XI will challenge RSL at Gately Field, Narrabri.
