Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted the 2020 Zone 3 Bowls State, Senior and President’s Reserve Triples Championships sectional play on Saturday.
The three finals all saw a Narrabri Shire team go head-to-head with a team from Lightning Ridge.
Lightning Ridge was victorious in the Senior and President’s Reserve divisions, while Narrabri Sporties’ Cameron Yates, Sam Pryor and Paul Crutcher won the State Singles sectional final.
The winning teams will now play at Armidale City Bowling Club this weekend in the zone finals.
Four teams entered to play State Triples at Wee Waa on Saturday which saw two semi-final matches contested on Saturday morning.
Yates, Pryor and Crutcher downed Wee Waa’s Kevin Baker, Steve Berger and Justin Knight 29-12 in the first semi-final, and Narrabri’s Preston Clark, David Dewar and Kevin Baguley went down 29-23 against Lightning Ridge’s Jamie Cubby, Anthony Lamb and Leo Hooper in the other semi-final.
Those two winning sides met in the decider on Saturday afternoon which was won 31-17 by the Narrabri team, six days after Yates and Pryor were crowned Zone 3 State Pairs champs.
Three teams entered the Senior Triples division at Wee Waa.
The Lightning Ridge team of Raymond Brown, Phillip W Morris and Phillip A Morris drew the round one bye so advanced straight through to the final.
In the Saturday morning semi-final, Wee Waa’s Peter Hennessy, Clancy Hamilton and Phil Lawford downed Narrabri’s Robert Wolters, Graham Rose and Tony Redman 41-13.
That saw Hennessy, Hamilton and Lawford take on Brown, Morris and Morris on Saturday afternoon in the final which was won 32-7 by the Lightning Ridge men.
Four teams also entered the State President’s Reserve Triples.
In an all-Wee Waa semi-final on Saturday morning, Kyne, Peter and Dustyn Allen defeated Charles Thompson, Grahame Amos and Trevor Keys 27-23.
In the other semi-final, Wee Waa’s Hunter Doring, Sean Anderson and Brett Pillar went down 25-22 against Lightning Ridge’s Donald Jenner, Victor Murray and William Kennedy.
The Lightning Ridge team went on to defeat the Allens 22-15 in the final that afternoon.
