Narrabri Touch Inc ladies’ competition side Agies Ladies continued its dominant run of form with a 30th consecutive win on Monday evening.
In the third round of the 2020-21 summer season, Agies Ladies defeated The Emasculators 17-1 at the Cooma Oval fields.
Martha Harvey was on fire in that match, crossing for eight tries in her team’s 16-point win. Teammates Bella Cruickshank and Matilda Currey both claimed hat-tricks and the other three tries were shared between Tashanny Clark, Alisha Conomos and Krista Zarka.
The last time Agies Ladies lost a Narrabri Touch Inc summer season match was back on Monday, April 9, 2018, when it went down 2-0 to Redbacks in the A-grade ladies’ grand final. Since then, Agies Ladies has won 28 games on the field and picked up another two victories via forfeit.
In the 28 matches it has played in that 30-game win streak, Agies Ladies has piled on 276 tries while conceding just 37.
The side went through the 2018-19 season as undefeated premiers, winning 18 matches including the grand final on Monday, April 29, 2019, when it prevailed 5-4 in a drop off thriller against Redbacks.
The defending champions then won all eight of its regular season matches last season before downing Specialised Civil 4-1 to qualify for grand final night which was eventually cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The side entered the current season on a 27-game winning streak and has since won all three of its games a combined 44-1 to sit at the top of the table.
Agies Ladies’ most senior player, Cathy Conomos, told The Courier that a blend of mixture of youth and experience as well as speed and talent drove the side’s success.
“Over the past few years we’ve added quite a few younger players which has built our team up,” Conomos said.
“I’m the oldest there and have been around the game for a lot of years so I try to train them up and bring them into the game so they keep going forward and increase their skills.
“A lot of the young players we have in our team have got their own skills too, they play their game and excel.
“They have a lot of speed.
“Their skills and speed together is what has given us this winning streak at the moment.
“We gel well together as a team and the younger newer players just slot on in.
“One of those new young players who has only just started this season is Matilda Currey. She has not played before apart from school-based stuff and you can already see she’s going to be a great little asset. Give her two years and she’ll be one to watch out for.”
Conomos said that Agies Ladies’ goal for the 2020-21 summer season was to continue its winning streak and reach the grand final.
There were five more Narrabri Touch Inc 2020-21 summer season ladies’ competition matches played on Monday afternoon.
In one of those games, Redbacks extended its undefeated start to the season by downing the previously unbeaten Blue Birds 5-2. Specialised Civil and Xtra also continued their unbeaten runs with 14-0 and 9-0 wins against OneDay Gals and The Rippers respectively. In the other two games, Hounddogs beat RSL Roulettes 5-2, and BPR Tourist edged out Phoenix Two390 4-3.
In the men’s competition, three teams entered round three undefeated but only one emerged with a three from three record. That was Grumley Builders which downed the previously undefeated Gee Bangers 6-4. The other side which entered the round undefeated, Damien Chiplin Plumbing, went down 3-2 against Win or Booze. In the other three men’s competition round three matches, DTA Lumberjacks defeated Ballbusters 8-6, Cougars outscored Mowley’s Maniacs 5-1, and Platform X Studio beat Stylies 12-2.
