Narrabri Sporties bowlers Cameron Yates and Sam Pryor are the Zone 3 Bowls Champion of Club Champions Pairs winners for 2020 after claiming all four matches played across the weekend.

The annual event was held at the South Tamworth Bowling Club, where round of 16 and quarter-final matches were contested on Saturday, followed by semi-finals and the decider on Sunday.

The Narrabri men won their matches a combined 100-43, and their lowest single match winning margin was 12.

On Saturday morning, they downed North Tamworth duo Graeme Pennell and Luke Russell 27-10.

That afternoon, Yates and Pryor took on Armidale Ex-Services’ William Dexter and Brody Dexter and scored a 23-10 win.

In the semi-final on Sunday morning, the Narrabri duo took on Wee Waa Bowling Club’s Ty Baker and Ben Russell. Yates and Pryor won 23-11 to advance to the final.

In the decider, the Narrabri duo met Armidale City’s Justin Bullen and Steven Fuller and won 27-12 to be crowned champions.

Zone 3 Bowls match committee chairman Phil O’Reilly said that the teams provided an excellent display of bowls, entertaining the spectators who had gathered for the final.

Yates and Pryor will now represent the North West Zone in the delayed state playoffs of the 2020 Champion of Club Champion Pairs from March 10-12, 2021, at Ettalong Bowling Club.

The Narrabri duo qualified for the weekend’s Zone 3 Bowls Champion of Club Champions knockout finals series after winning the Narrabri Sporties Major Pairs competition. The final was contested on Saturday, November 7, when Yates teamed up with Laurie Gilbert, who subbed for Pryor, to defeat Preston Clark and David Dewar 29-14.

Yates and Pryor also claimed the Zone 3 State Pairs championship last month.
