The 2020 North West Tennis Championships for both senior and junior players were hosted by Gunnedah Tennis Club on Saturday and Sunday, November 21 and 22.

The event was attended by 10 Narrabri juniors, five of whom returned home with winners’ or runner-ups’ trophies.

Lily Campbell and Ava Garbutt teamed up to play in the division two ladies’ doubles and were runners-up, going down 6-2, 6-0 in the final.

In the 12-years-and-under boys’ doubles division, Jack Hartnett teamed up with Tamworth’s Mathew Keen and they won the final 6-1.

Sophie Hartnett won the 10-years-and-under girls’ doubles division. She teamed up with Tamworth’s Ezarlia Cant and they won a close final 6-5.

The 10-years-and-under boys’ doubles division was won by Lucas Dowdell and his Gunnedah partner Lucas Grosser. They won their final 6-2, 6-0.

Other Narrabri players who competed at the event were George Bennett, Cooper Butler, Callum Wales, Alistair Dowdell and Charlie Butler.

Narrabri Tennis head coach Shane Murphy and Narrabri District Tennis Association president Rod Kirk told The Courier they were proud of all of the Narrabri players’ efforts at the event, and they congratulated the players who returned home with trophies.
