The 2020-21 Narrabri District Cricket Association Coates Hire Namoi Super Slog T20 competition will get underway on Friday, December 18, with round one games which will kick-start a massive weekend of cricket in Narrabri including round two of the competition the following night, the last second grade one day games of the calendar year on the Saturday afternoon, then the MA Connolly Cup Narrabri derby on the Sunday.
Teams for the NDCA’s premier T20 competition will be chosen this Sunday afternoon at the annual draft event which will be held at the Narrabri Golf Club.
Once again, four teams will compete in the coming campaign.
Defending champion Specialised Civil Services has returned to defend its crown, while Rose Pest Control and Priag Marketing will be back for another crack.
The Carla Baxter Real Estate franchise has rebranded as WTC Earthmoving.
Rose Pest Control and Priag Marketing have chosen to retain their captains for the 2020-21 season. Rose Pest Control will again be led by Western Razorbacks’ Ty Baker, while Civeo’s Lachlan Cameron takes the reins of Priag Marketing again.
Specialised Civil Services has named Civeo’s Nick Smart, who won the inaugural premiership with the franchise, as its captain.
Meanwhile WTC Earthmoving has named RSL first XI skipper Jarrett Tough as its captain.
Each franchise will be given $10 million dollars to bid on the pool’s players to form a roster at Sunday’s draft.
Each franchise can retain four players from its 2019-20 squad, but the price they were taken for at the last draft night, plus 20 per cent, will be taken away from the franchise’s balance.
The cost of Smart, who was the draft’s most expensive player last season, will not be deducted from Specialised Civil Services’ balance, nor will the cost of Tough for WTC.
As of this afternoon, 39 players had registered for the draft.
NDCA president Josh Rose told The Courier that some of those were players from out of town.
“We’ve had a few from Moree register and a few others not from an NDCA club,” Rose said.
“Regos are down at the moment but I know a lot of guys are struggling to register through the new MyCricket system.
“If you need help just get onto an NDCA committee member for assistance.
“Regos must be submitted by Friday night.”
