Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri will host its first meeting in more than a year at the Newtown Park Speedway on Saturday evening to the delight of local racing fans.
Ticket sales have provided an early indication that the people are getting exactly what they want.
As the sport continues to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a limit on the number of people permitted to enter the venues at the race events, which includes the drivers and pit crews.
That consequently reduces crowd sizes, so spots on the hill for Saturday’s event are limited. It has been estimated that 400 people will be allowed entry onto the hill, about half of a full crowd.
Tickets must be purchased to enter the event and the only way to acquire those is online.
“It has to be a ticketed event and there will be no tickets sold at the gate,” Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri president Scott Connole told The Courier.
“We need to know numbers beforehand especially with people travelling.
“Without a ticket on Saturday you will be turned away, that’s not what we want to do and it’s not ideal but due to the COVID-19 restrictions it’s the way it is per Speedway Australia rules.
“Early ticket sales are great, we are very impressed with the way they are going.
“I’d suggest that if anybody is thinking about going, don’t leave it until the last minute to buy a ticket.
“We’ll have about 400 on the hill and our normal capacity is about double that.”
This Saturday’s Northwest Speedway Club Narrabri event will showcase Outlaw Sedans, AMCA Nationals, senior and junior Formula 500s, RSA Fender Benders, RSA Street Stockers, RSA Junior Sedans and RSA Fast Fours.
Connole said that it would be fast and furious from start to finish.
“Racing-wise this is going to be a very good night,” he said.
“There’s about 20 AMCAs coming and they haven’t had many runs so they are keen. The quality of drivers in that division is second to none and they always put on a great show.
“We are down on numbers in the street stockers because there’s another show in the district that night.
“The juniors are coming.
“There’ll be 19 fender benders and they will all run on the track, they won’t be split, so that will just be carnage. It will be great for the spectators.
“Then we have the Formula 500s and juniors Formula 500s coming. The quality of driver that is coming for the Formula 500s is as good as I’ve seen. Quantity is down but the quality is up there.”
Connole said that the track was expected to hold up well on the night, and that any late-week rain would be welcome and would have a positive impact on the track.
