The Narrabri District Junior Cricket Association under-15s team challenged Maitland Maroon in the grand final of the 2020 Central North Cricket intertown junior competition on Sunday.

Both sides went into the decider, played at Number One Oval in Tamworth, undefeated following successful seasons in their respective pools.

The Maitland side got the job done on grand final day, winning by 223 runs to claim the Under-15s John Kilborn Shield.

Maitland batted first and made 5-304 in its 50 overs.

In reply, Narrabri could only manage 81 runs before losing its final wicket in the 25th over of its chase.

NDJCA congratulated its under-15s side in a Facebook post on Monday.

“It’s been quite some time since a Narrabri junior team made it to a grand final in the intertown (district) competition,” NDJCA wrote.

“Newcomers, Maitland may have produced a hefty score but the defeat certainly was no reflection of the achievements of our young men in 2020.

“Despite the loss, and just like gladiators, each of them played on until the very end, and each one refused to give in until the last ball was bowled and the last wicket was taken.

“To all our players – congratulations … we are very proud to have runners-up in a grand final representing Narrabri.”
