Innovation was the hot topic at a STEM Friendly Businesses Meet the Teachers event hosted by Future EDU at The Crossing Theatre late last year.

Future EDU has continued to provide STEM engagement for local businesses while also engaging with the workforce of tomorrow.

Last year’s event saw Narrabri Shire Council address the gathering.

Further presentations by industry and educational institutions showcased the technological advancements already being implemented around the country.

Whitehaven Coal highlighted its use of virtual reality in its operations.

Future EDU project officer, Dianne Purcell, said they hoped 2021 would bring more engagement and outcomes as well as the ability to return to schools.

The aim this year is for at least 12 engagements between schools and businesses while monitoring the outcomes.

“For a little town like Narrabri, we’re lucky to have a progressive and committed committee,” she said.

“I’m energised to be part of it.”

She said the aim of the event was bring together businesses and teachers into one room for engagement.

The committee’s chair, Warwick Moppett, outlined changes schools could introduce into their curriculum including the use of VR googles.

Speaking of advancements in technology, he said the community needed to be brought along with the developments.
