The 2021 golf season is well and truly underway at the Wee Waa Golf Club and the local 18-hole course is looking as immaculate as ever.

The third competition game of the year was contested yesterday, following events on Sunday, January 3 and Sunday, January 10.

On January 3, a two-ball aggregate was contested.

That was won by Les Ross and Luke Humphries from runners-up Mark Hennessy and Kevin Baker.

The propin that day went to Toby Reynolds.

On January 10, the first monthly mug individual stroke event of the year was held.

Anthony Gray was victorious with a score of 68 nett and the runner-up was 2020 club champion David Avery who shot 70 nett.

Avery also played his semi-final round of the singles matchplay tournament that day which he won against Steve Gleeson one up in a tight match. Avery plays off a handicap of one and shot a one-under-par 71.

The propin that day was claimed by Les Davis, and nearest to pin on the fifth was won by Ron Clutterbuck.

Yesterday, a four-ball stableford was contested.

The winners of that two-person teams event were club president David Russell and his teammate Ron Clutterbuck who totalled 45 points to top the leaderboard.

Runners-up on a countback were John Galagher and Luke Humphries.

Propin went to Ben Russell, nearest to pin on the fifth was claimed by Toby Reynolds and nearest to pin on the 15th was won by Greg Avery.

This Sunday, the Shankers’ day will be held at the Wee Waa Golf Club from 8am, and there will also be a pot of gold game on Thursday from 5pm.
