The first cattle sale for 2021 was held yesterday at the local saleyards where Narrabri’s livestock agency association started the year in style with a donation to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Narrabri Support Group.

Agents Matt Collett and Bruce Evans (Nutrien Ag Solutions), Hunter Harley and Jed Brennan (Davidson Cameron and Co) and Scott and Tom Hamilton (Hamilton Mortimer Agency) presented Westpac Rescue Helicopter Narrabri Support Group’s Chris Healion and Ros Kelly with a cheque for $1000 just before the sale got underway.

“Narrabri Agents Association as a group has decided to give $1000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter which we believe is a very important and essential service out here in the country,” Mr Collett said.

“They are a big supporter of the community and they’ve helped so many people,” Mr Evans added.

Mrs Kelly told The Courier that fundraising was a challenge in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Donations like these are very important and much appreciated,” she said.

“Especially this past year, fundraising has been so hard.

“Donations like these stay in our community too.”

“The helicopter service is free and the bit that we do helps fund that,” Mr Healion added.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Narrabri Support Group’s next major fundraiser will be held at Dangar Park during the Santos Festival of Rugby event in February.

The group will operate the barbecue on both gamedays from 1pm throughout the afternoon and into the night.

Meanwhile, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 1.05pm on Monday afternoon to carry out a urgent medical retrieval from Narrabri Hospital back to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

The 82-year-old male patient was suffering a serious medical condition that required specialist treatment.

The man was stabilised by the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team prior to being airlifted back to Tamworth in a stable condition.
