Interested observers have wondered at former US President Donald Trump’s extraordinary efforts to stay in power. The Economist newspaper believes it has the answer. “As of noon on January 20, Mr Trump’s legal shield to stave off lawsuits will vanish, exposing him to an abundance of civil and criminal legal peril.The most serious trouble he faces may be in his former home town, where the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus Vance, has been investigating alleged crimes, including alleged hush-money pay-offs to an adult-film star and a Playboy model on the eve of the 2016 election.”
