Narrabri RSL Cricket Club won its second consecutive Narrabri District Cricket Association second grade T20 grand final yesterday with a one-run win against the Western Razorbacks at Collins Park.

The two sides provided an entertaining contest from start to finish which concluded with a thrilling finale that saw the match come down to the final ball.

RSL batted first after being sent in by the Razorbacks which won the toss, and the defending champions totaled 7-99 from its 20 overs. It then restricted the chasing side to 6-98 to win by the narrowest of margins.

The Western Razorbacks entered the 20th over of its innings on 5-91, requiring nine runs to win. That became two to win from the final ball after the side scored seven runs from the first five deliveries of the over.

RSL’s Tim Shields bowled that final over and secured the win for his side with a run out before the Razorbacks were able to complete a run from that final delivery.

Fellow RSL young gun Will Ford was named man-of-the-match. The opening bowler secured a game-best 3-8 from four overs with the ball after chipping in with 11 runs in the first innings of the game.

RSL now turns its attention to the NDCA second grade one day season. It is currently first on the ladder, two wins clear of second-placed Civeo with five games remaining, in its quest to win a third consecutive one day grand final.

Next Saturday when that competition resumes with round 11 matches, RSL will take on Tatts, the Western Razorbacks will challenge Civeo, and Tourist Hotel has the bye.
