Baby shower celebration held at Merah North

A beautiful and relaxed baby shower was held for Merah North’s Alex Tanfield on Saturday, January 9.

Alyce Bowyer hosted the glamorous pool party at ‘Jabiru’ and guests enjoyed mocktails and cocktails by Georgia Michell and a delicious lunch by Katrina White. Alex and her partner Todd Farrer are expecting their first baby on January 27.

Todd’s mum Lindy, sister Grace Farrer and youngest son Hugo attended the baby shower, but Alex’s family live in England so distance and the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions meant her relatives sadly weren’t able to make the celebration. However, many photos and videos have been beamed backed to the United Kingdom.

Alex made a short but heartfelt speech thanking Alyce for her kindness and organisation. She also thanked all the guests for making her day so special.

Alex said she treasured the strong friendships which she’s made since moving to the region three years ago.

“I just want to say a massive thank you, COVID has put a bit of a spanner in the works of life and it means more to me than you know having you all here today,” said Alex.

“I never really thought that I was ever one for baby showers, I was always a little bit sceptical, but the last few weeks I’ve done a bit of a 180 on them and this is lovely.

“I know some of you are in a similar position – but I think not having family here and not knowing when you’re going to see your family or people who you’ve grown up with again, well, it’s tough – so all of you coming today and knowing that I have such a good support network is just amazing.

“It has blown my mind how many of you have said to me ‘if you just need a little bit of help’ and that really means so much to me being so far away from everybody at home. So thank you.”.
