Work on stage two of the Narrabri CBD upgrade project has been underway since contractors returned to site on January 4.

“Contractors are currently working on improvement of underlying road layers which will support the new asphalt road to be constructed,” the council advises.

“As of yesterday, Wednesday, January 27, the Doyle Street and Dewhurst Street roundabouts will be closed to some traffic.

“These closures will remain in place until completion of the current stage of the pavement replacement project.

“These works will be undertaken in a similar manner to stage one.

“Pedestrian access to all shop fronts will be maintained. Manned pedestrian crossings will be provided at the locations of the existing pedestrian crossings near roundabouts to allow pedestrians to cross the road works area.

“One side of the road will be closed at a time while maintaining one-way traffic along Maitland Street in the affected area.

“Detours will be in place at all times to direct traffic around the work site.

“A special mention and thank you to the local businesses which have kindly provided refreshments and baked goods to workers outside their premises in recent weeks.

“Council appreciates the patience of the community and business owners as these required infrastructure improvement works are completed.”
