Narrabri Blue is the last of the two Narrabri District Cricket Association representative sides still alive in the 2020-21 MA Connolly Cup competition.

After finishing second in the Namoi Conference, the side earned a spot in one of the Northern Inland Cricket Council’s premier representative competition’s semi-finals.

It will take on Inverell, the team which finished first on the Gwydir Conference ladder.

In the other semi-final, Namoi Conference top-ranked team Gunnedah will host the second-placed Gwydir Conference team Moree.

Inverell enters this Sunday’s home elimination match unbeaten, having won all three of its matches in the 2020-21 regular season.

It was scheduled to play four, however, its round four match against Armidale was washed out and declared a draw.

Narrabri won three of its games, including its most previous two outings which were a home derby against Narrabri Gold and an way match against Quirindi.

It won those two matches by a combined 176 runs, and enters Sunday’s semi-final in good form.

Narrabri Blue skipper Nick Smart scored a combined 217 runs in those two matches and finished the season as the leading run-scorer with 271 in three matches at an average of 90.3.

He told The Courier that it was always hard to win in Inverell, but said that he was confident his team would get the job done.

Narrabri Blue’s lineup for its semi-final match is as follows: Nick Smart (c), Matt Conroy, Jade Lees, Jordyn Mowle, Kaleb Mowle, Shane Murphy, Bernard O’Connor, Ryan O’Neill, Tim Shields, Nathan Trindall, Chris Watkins, Lachlan Woolford.
