Narrabri Show Society has issued a plea for volunteers to ensure the 2021 event can go ahead.

As a result of COVID health requirements, the organisation needs extra hands in the form of marshalls to ensure the various elements of the three-day event comply with government regulations.

The society is also looking for other helpers across different sections of the event, including volunteers to work in the new state of the art kitchen at the pavilion.

Last year’s show was a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic and was cancelled just weeks away from the event.

The committee is determined to see Narrabri’s big event return this year but will need support from the community to ensure it can be staged.

Show society president Jason Orman encouraged the community to rally around the event.

“It was devastating to see the show cancelled last year. This year, we are determined to have the show back for the enjoyment of the community,” he said.

“Extra people power is needed for us to run our show this year.

“Whether people want to help out on show days or businesses and organisations want to support the show through sponsorship, the show society will welcome any assistance it can get.”

The committee is already hard at work planning the event with several meetings already held this year to set the wheels in motion.

Sponsorship details are in the process of being finalised, with the committee’s vice president Bec Cope asking businesses and organisations to get in touch this week if they are interested in supporting the event.

A working bee is being held this weekend at the showgrounds to continue preparation work for the event.

Mr Orman welcomed people to roll up their sleeves and assist the committee with the work.

“Many hands make light work. In the months leading up to the show, a great deal of work goes into getting the grounds ready as well as planning the actual event itself.

“Let’s see that community spirit shine through and band together for a successful show.”

Mr Orman said there were a number of showground improvements that will be showcased to the community at this year’s event.

In addition to the new kitchen installed at the pavilion, there have been upgrades at the rodeo ring, work has been carried out at the main arena and shower facilities in the amenities block have been upgraded.
