The last time surveyor Darren Pollett was in Narrabri he was an ADF member with the Royal Australian Engineers.
“We were here to help with flood relief in the 1990s,” said Darren.
The army engineers came to the district to restore infrastructure and help get the community’s ground communications get back to normal.
“We brought plant and machinery, the ability to fix infrastructure, bridges and roads,” recalled
Darren.
“We were here for a few weeks working with the shire council and community repairing and helping where we could.
“Roads were repaired and there were bridges washed away which were temporarily replaced with military bridges until new bridges could be built.”
Now a survey manager with VFT Engineering Surveyors, Darren Pollett is back in Narrabri with a team of colleague surveyors to establish an office of VFT to service clients across the North West.
VFT provides a wide range of engineering and surveying services to the construction and mining industries across Australia.
Their portfolio of recent major projects includes Central Station main works (Sydney metro) the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade (PC), Sydney (Westconnex), Lower

The head office is at Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, with a branch office at St Peters and now a Narrabri office in The Courier building, 60 Maitland Street.
“We will cover a wide area from the Narrabri hub,” said Darren.
“Maurice Labour another VFT survey manager will be in the Narrabri office, and I will also assist with works in the area.”
VFT is seeking to recruit staff.
“We are looking for people to be based locally, living in Narrabri or in the close vicinity,” said Darren.
VFT is keen to explore opportunities in this region.
“Our industry sees the Narrabri district as an area of growth potential. This is new territory for us and we are enthusiastic about the potential and prospects here.”
VFT is a major business in the surveying and mapping field, but remains family owned.
The company was founded by David Venner 20 years ago and as the ongoing managing director, David continues to ensure all precision surveying practices at VFT.
