Maules Creek community is developing the infrastructure to further consolidate the 40-acre Maules Creek Recreation Reserve as horse sports, social and entertainment venue.

The reserve is administered by a voluntary trust which has received $157,290 in funding from the NSW government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund to be used to build a new amenities block at the reserve.

The new block will serve the growing volume of reserve users and will be built alongside the existing Maules Creek Hall, now undergoing extensive renovations funded by a large Whitehaven Voluntary Planning Agreement contribution.

Work on the new facilities, including showers and toilets, will begin in the next few months and the trust hopes it will be completed by November.

Trust member Steve Bradshaw said the trust was delighted with the funding and thanked Member for Barwon Roy Butler for his active support of the community’s bid for the money.

The new planned new amenities block is just part of the picture of progress at Maules Creek.

“Things are moving here,” said Trust member Lloyd Finlay.

The Maules Creek Campdraft Club has been developing its facilities with the latest additions completed 18 months ago.

The club will host their next major campdraft on March 26 to 28. This will draw an expected 750 entries and about 150 people, a significant economic boost for the charities and clubs which service the day and for the local economy as the visitors spend on shopping, food and fuel.
