Maitland Street buildings will be transformed into a nightly light show from Friday, March 19, as part of an event to encourage people to shop and dine in the town centre.

Eight buildings will feature lighting displays as part of an event called Narra-BRIGHT.

Organised by Narrabri Shire Council, the spectacular transformation of Maitland Street is aimed at encouraging economic stimulus within the CBD.

The displays will run from 6pm to 9pm on the first night, March 19, with late-night trading to be held at participating businesses as well as kids’ activities held in conjunction with the CREATE festival and performers providing entertainment along the street.

Most of the lighting installations will illuminate Maitland Street nightly until March 27.

The buildings to be lit up are McDonald’s Fashions, Westpac, The Grayhound, BEST Employment, THRIVE Church, Tourist Hotel, Watson’s Kitchen and Tattersalls Hotel.

Council’s director of corporate and community services, Lindsay Mason, said council is looking forward to seeing these building facades lit up in bright LED lights.

“These buildings have been selected for light installations based on their heritage and architectural features, general building aesthetics and suitability for temporary installation, which considers the ability to access the building’s power,” he said.

“Council encourages local businesses in the CBD to support the Narra-BRIGHT event by offering alfresco dining, where the community can enjoy the light installations whilst boosting the local economy by eating out at local venues,” Mr Mason said.

Council is encouraging the community to join in on the Narra-BRIGHT activation activities and take the opportunity to enjoy outdoor dining at local businesses.

The CBD Activation Project is part of the NSW government’s Summer Fund initiative which brings The Festival of Place to people right across the state.

The initiative is part of the NSW government’s efforts to support community wellbeing and economic recovery in local centres.

This year’s CBD activation project is being launched as a pilot where outcomes from the project will be utilised to assist in development of future initiatives across towns and villages of the Narrabri Shire in coming years.
