Locals are now being encouraged to register their interest to work on the Narrabri to North Star Inland Rail project.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation and Trans4m Rail are looking to expand their team as construction progresses into the next stage.

More than 500 people are expected to work directly on the construction of the Inland Rail project.

ARTC Inland Rail chief executive officer, Richard Wankmuller, said utilising local companies, partnerships, and sole traders is a priority for this project.

“There will be many more opportunities as Inland Rail progresses, so we encourage local businesses of all shapes and sizes to submit their interest,” Mr Wankmuller said.

“We need the right people and businesses to be involved to deliver the work on-time, on-budget and with minimal disruption.”

Local member for Parkes and Minister for Regional Health, Regional Communications and Local Government, Mark Coulton, believes this opportunity will bring significant benefits to the communities of North West NSW.

“We’re now in an exciting time.

“As major construction activity gains momentum in the region over the coming months, there are opportunities for local businesses and individuals to take action and get involved,” Mr Coulton said.

“Inland Rail is more than a 1700-kilometre rail line – it is establishing a corridor of commerce that offers social and economic prospects for regional Australia.”

Mr Coulton also reminded locals that working on the Inland Rail project will be a rewarding experience for those wanting to encourage growth in the local area.

“These roles will be filled by locals who have the opportunity to deliver a major piece of infrastructure that will provide long-term benefits for our region,” he said.

A work-ready program will be rolled out in the coming months to ensure participants receive a strong introduction to the project.

It will consist of rail industry training, a range of general civil construction units and site exposure.

There are more than ten opportunities advertised by ARTC for the Narrabri to North Star section, including engineers and machinery operators.

Safety and environment positions are also available.
